Some clients are hesitant about the use of sub contractors. They are not always viewed in a positive light, sometimes being perceived as demonstrating an inability to provide a full facility service, but this stigma is erroneous. Professionally handled they can form part of a highly competitive business model – after all, where would the construction industry be without sub contractors?
The fact of the matter is that sub contractors provide for a wide variety of services under the auspices of a single provider, ensuring a single point of reference for invoicing and crucially, a single quality standard. When the fit is right the main contractor will benefit from working with genuine specialists, with all that goes with it, from the enthusiasm for the job, to the savings that can be made from expert knowledge and specialist equipment.
Even the largest providers of facility services use sub contractors, not least because subs do not bear the burden of complacency that can bedevil in house divisions, and of course they are an essential element to growing mid market providers. But what are the criteria that make for a successful partnership?
The first step is to identify the right contractor for the right job, so a full investigation of its core competencies is vital. Andrew Philpot, TemcoUK Facility Services’ Managing Director takes us from there.
