When coronavirus emerged as a significant threat in mid January TemcoUK Facility Services was inundated with calls from clients asking for guidance.
“We quickly developed a deep understanding of Government and World Health Organisation advice,” said Andrew Philpot, Managing Director, “And also looked back at past preparation, including a White Paper we produced on pandemic preparation in 2015.”
An action plan for clients was drawn up, summarising what was known so far and how TemcoUK was responding.
The twelve page document gave key information about Covid 19, giving ways of minimising infection through diligent hygiene, with clear illustrations. In the event of a suspected outbreak, detailed guidance was provided, with further advice in the event of an outbreak being confirmed. Additional information was also provided on the longevity of the virus, cleaning office spaces where there are suspected or confirmed cases and rubbish disposal.
TemcoUK’s specific response included ensuring that clients had adequate supplies of hand sanitisers, together with enhanced cleaning procedures in high traffic areas. They had swiftly sourced and secured stocks of a powerful product which had been independently proven to kill the Norovirus, HIV, Hepatitis C and H1N1 Influenza viruses. It is also certified to kill Clostridium difficile, MRSA and common food poisoning bacteria including Salmonella typhimurium, Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli. Once high contact areas are defined, staff were trained in the use of the chemical, including dosage, application and personal protection procedures.
“The level of trust clients placed in our judgement was gratifying,” adds Andrew, “And we were also able to divert clients from unnecessarily excessive and expensive actions, like fumigation.”
