Our previous blog outlined TemcoUK’s early reactions to the coronavirus crisis. The next stage was to remain informed, alert and reactive to the changing situation in the period that ended in lockdown on March 24th.
Communication was key. An email was sent to all clients on 9th March which included critical information for Facilities Managers and reassurance that TemcoUK would stay on top of the changing situation. It was clear that many internal client meetings were taking place, where FMs were being asked for a lot of information about the impact of the virus. TemcoUK clients already had that information to hand:
“…this is very useful and we appreciate your proactivity…cleaning support was discussed at one of our emergency planning meetings, so your timing was perfect.”
A further email was sent on 12th March following the move from containment to the delay phase. Feedback told us that many cleaning companies were uncertain how to proceed, so we ensured TemcoUK clients had a plan in place to respond to suspected and confirmed cases.
We produced a client information pack with clear procedures, a health and safety protocol for cleaning affected areas and a staff training guide which included actions to minimize the spread of the virus.
High traffic areas demanded special attention so we provided a checklist of areas to focus on, including receptions, break out areas, hot desks, lifts, doors, washrooms, kitchens, vending machines and more. Staff were briefed on cleaning cloth technique to avoid cross contamination and waste disposal in accordance with Government guidelines. In addition, supplies of a powerful new chemical were sourced and introduced, providing an enhanced barrier against infection.
Other considerations included careful stock management, since increased use of consumables resulted in increased levels of handwashing and managing staff shortages just at the point when clients were requiring extra cleaning.
At every stage, TemcoUK made strenuous efforts to anticipate the position and give clients the information and service they needed to keep their staff and business protected.
Our next blog will cover the advice given to clients as they shut down their businesses and furloughed staff.
